Battle of Grolle 1627 (400th Anniversary)

The Slag om Grolle 1627 reenacts Prince Frederik Hendrik's 1627 siege of Groenlo, when the Dutch States army broke the Spanish garrison holding the fortress town during the Eighty Years' War. Around 1,500 reenactors take over Groenlo's historic centre for a weekend, staging the advancing siege day by day alongside military encampments, craftspeople and traders recreating daily life on both sides of the lines. The 2027 edition falls exactly 400 years after the historical siege it restages.

Parking is signposted from the approaches into Groenlo as you near the town, with a shuttle bus running roughly every 15 minutes between the car parks and the site; a dedicated accessible parking area for blue-badge holders is at Buitenschans 3. Tickets are sold online via Ticketmaster or by QR code on site. The organiser had not yet published 2027 gate times or ticket prices at time of writing — its own FAQ page still shows logistics tied to a previous edition's dates, so treat exact hours as unconfirmed until closer to the date.
