Wismar Swedish Festival (26th)
Known locally as Schwedenfest Wismar
About
A four-day August festival in the UNESCO-listed old town of Wismar marking the 155 years the Hanseatic port spent under the Swedish crown, and billed as the largest Swedish festival outside Sweden. The historical core is a period military encampment on the Marktplatz, where the Bohus Elfsborghs Caroliner - a Swedish Carolean living-history group of more than fifty members - camp in period dress and demonstrate seventeenth- and eighteenth-century soldiers' and camp life, alongside the Schwedenweg historical parade, which in 2026 fielded twenty-nine groups and around five hundred participants from across Germany, Austria and Wismar's Swedish twin town of Kalmar. The wider programme spans stages in the old town, a market boulevard, a fairground at the Alter Hafen and the Schwedenlauf road race.
