About
Klaipėda's official city-founding anniversary festival, held every year on 1 August at the Klaipėda Castle site (Klaipėdos piliavietė) and marking the Teutonic Order's founding of Memelburg castle in 1252. The Klaipėda City Municipality and the Museum of Minor Lithuania turn the fortress grounds into a costumed 13th-century townlet for the day, with knights' combat tournaments, archery, period crafts, traditional dancing and food, and, in several past editions, a dedicated Vikings-and-knights battle tournament with Curonian, Jotvingian and Livonian Order living-history clubs in camp. The 2026 edition, held 1 August 2026, was the city's 774th.
