Geneva Escalade Festival
Known locally as Fête de l'Escalade
About
Annual commemoration of the night of 11-12 December 1602, when the forces of Charles Emmanuel I of Savoy failed to take Protestant Geneva by scaling its walls. The Compagnie de 1602, a society of more than 2,000 members, reenacts 17th-century life in the Old Town over three days, with fifers, drummers, arquebusiers, pikemen, cavalry and the Falco cannon, ending in a torchlit historical procession.
