Festival Arelate — Roman Days of Arles

Arles spends six days as Arelate, the 'little Rome of the Gauls'. Founded in 2007, the festival fills the Roman arena, the ancient theatre, the Verrerie gardens and the streets of the old town with legionaries, gladiators and craftspeople, alongside a Gallic encampment and an imperial-period Roman camp staffed by reenactment troupes. The 20th edition takes 'private life and public life' as its theme, and runs in partnership with the Peplum film festival, which screens in the ancient theatre each evening.

Arles, Bouches-du-Rhone. Events are spread across the arena, the ancient theatre, the Musee departemental Arles antique and the town centre, with some programming at Saint-Remy-de-Provence (Glanum). Most animations are free; some visits and shows are ticketed separately (a guided triclinium visit ran at EUR5 in a previous edition). Camps typically open 10h-18h.
