About

Each March the state historic site marks the anniversary of the Battle of Bentonville, fought 19 to 21 March 1865 and the largest land battle ever fought in North Carolina, with a free day of living history: camps to walk through, historic weapons demonstrations, talks on the Carolinas Campaign and tours of the Harper House, which served as a Union field hospital and still stands. Every fifth year the commemoration expands into a full-scale reenactment on the original ground, drawing thousands of living historians and tens of thousands of spectators.
