Battle of Monmouth Reenactment

Hundreds of troops encamp at Monmouth Battlefield State Park to recreate the battle of 28 June 1778, one of the longest of the Revolutionary War and the day the Continental Army, retrained over the winter at Valley Forge, held the field against the main British army. The Friends of Monmouth Battlefield began the reenactment in 1990 to draw attention to a threatened national historic landmark, and it has grown into the largest annual living history event in New Jersey. Alongside the battle there are military encampments, cannon and musket demonstrations, children's musket drills, colonial music, camp tours, a sutler area, and a programme on Molly Pitcher, whose legend began on this ground.
