About
Annual multi-day living-history event in Bailén (Jaén) commemorating the 19 July 1808 Battle of Bailén, the first open-field defeat of a Napoleonic army, in which Spanish forces under Castaños forced the surrender of roughly 17,000 French troops under Dupont. The programme includes 19th-century-themed cultural and educational activities, parades, skirmishes and a live reenactment of the battle performed by Napoleonic-era reenactment groups.

Getting there
Most of the weekend is centred on Bailén itself, with the Battle of Bailén Museum hosting talks and free guided visits (book ahead on +34 953 678 394; groups of up to 30). The main battle recreation takes place on Sunday 4 October, starting at 11:30 on the battlefield. Bailén has a bus station with ALSA and Samar coach services, including to Jaén and Linares. The organiser's programme page gives no entry price, parking arrangements or opening hours.
