About
Spain's most historically significant Moros y Cristianos festival, held in Alcoy (Alicante) since at least the 16th century and designated a Fiesta of International Tourist Interest. Costumed 'filaes' representing Moorish and Christian companies parade through the town over three days built around the feast of Sant Jordi (St George), culminating in the Alardo, a mock gunpowder battle re-enacting a legendary 1276 Moorish assault on the town repelled with the saint's intervention.
