Matsushima Air Base Air Festival

Matsushima in Miyagi prefecture is the home base of the Blue Impulse, which makes its air festival the team's own show and the one at which they fly in front of their home crowd. The base was inundated by the tsunami of March 2011, losing aircraft on the ground, and its recovery is part of the event's local meaning. The town of Higashimatsushima holds its autumn festival the day before, on 3 October, with a further Blue Impulse display.
