Matsushima Air Base Air Festival

Matsushima in Miyagi prefecture is the home base of the Blue Impulse, which makes its air festival the team's own show and the one at which they fly in front of their home crowd. The base was inundated by the tsunami of March 2011, losing aircraft on the ground, and its recovery is part of the event's local meaning. The town of Higashimatsushima holds its autumn festival the day before, on 3 October, with a further Blue Impulse display.

Nearest station is JR Senseki Line / Senseki-Tōhoku Line Yamoto Station, roughly a 15-30 minute walk to the base's Wakamatsu Gate, the main pedestrian entrance for the public. There is no general public parking on the base itself. Higashimatsushima City opens free temporary car parks around town but asks visitors to prefer trains/buses since lots tend to fill; parking on public roads or farmland is strictly prohibited. For 2026 the Blue Impulse viewing field next to the base is closed to the public from the afternoon of 2 October through the festival, and two lots used in past years are unavailable this time. Whether a shuttle bus will connect remote parking to the gates is not confirmed for this edition. Entry to the festival is free with no advance registration; bags are checked at the gate.
