Gifu Air Base Air Festival
Known locally as 岐阜基地航空祭2026 (Gifu Air Base Air Festival)
About
Gifu Air Base at Kakamigahara is the home of the JASDF's Air Development and Test Wing, which gives its air festival a character no other Japanese open day has: test aircraft in special high-visibility markings, prototypes and one-off airframes, and a signature mass formation flying several different types together. Enthusiasts rate it the most interesting Japanese air festival for aircraft variety even though the Blue Impulse do not attend.
Getting there
Gifu Air Base, Naka Kan'yuchi (no lot number), Kakamigahara, Gifu 504-8701
No visitor parking is available inside the base because the festival is expected to draw large crowds, so plan to arrive by public transport. The base has announced a preview morning for visitors holding a disability certificate on Saturday 21 November 2026, about 09:00-11:30, with a limited number of reserved parking spaces: applications are by email from 5 to 23 October 2026 on a first come, first served basis, with one vehicle per eligible person and up to two companions, and motorcycles and bicycles are not allowed. As of 14 October 2026 the base had not yet published the festival's opening hours, admission terms, station and shuttle arrangements or entrances.
