Ashiya Air Base Air Festival
Known locally as 令和8年度芦屋基地航空祭 (Ashiya Air Base Air Festival)
About
Ashiya in Fukuoka prefecture is a JASDF pilot training base on the northern Kyushu coast, and its air festival is built around basic and intermediate trainer aircraft flown in formation, with a Blue Impulse display in 2026. It is a smaller and less pressed event than the big fighter-base open days, which makes it a comfortable first Japanese air festival.
Getting there
Ashiya Air Base, 1455-1 Ashiya, Ashiya-machi, Onga-gun, Fukuoka 807-0133
The base has published a traffic-control notice for the day, so do not plan to drive. Roughly 09:00-13:30, private cars cannot enter towards the base from the Ashiya Hamaguchi Minami and Shimazu Kita junctions, with access also restricted at the Boatrace Ashiya and Yamashika Karato junctions, and the Bokai housing-complex restriction runs 09:00-14:30; only residents' vehicles (Ashiya and the Shimazu area of Onga), buses, commercial vehicles and commuter vehicles are exempt, and the Ashiya Town Bus is suspended during the restrictions. The notice gives the event hours as 08:00-14:30 (marked tentative). On ordinary days the base's access page routes visitors by the JR Kagoshima Line to Onga-gawa Station and then the town bus to the Jieitai-mae stop, about 20 minutes. Public parking, shuttle buses, admission terms and walking routes had not been published for 2026 at the time of checking.
